2 cups sugar

2 large eggs, at room temperature

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2½ cups cake flour

¼ cup cocoa powder

1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

½ teaspoon baking powder

¼ teaspoon salt

1½ cups buttermilk, at room temperature

1½ tablespoons white vinegar

1 teaspoon red food colouring paste (preferred over liquid colour)*

 

Frosting

1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature

1½ pkg (340g) cream cheese, at room temperature

4 cups icing sugar, sifted

1½ teaspoons vanilla extract
