For the cake:

115g unsalted butter, at room temperature, plus more for the pans

2 1/2 cups cake flour, plus more for the pans

112g milk chocolate, chopped

1 1/2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup   cocoa powder (not Dutch-process)

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup vegetable oil

1 1/2 cups packed dark brown sugar

1/2 cup  sugar

1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract

4 large eggs

For the frosting:

112g milk chocolate, roughly chopped

1/3 cup light corn syrup

1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract

284g unsalted butter, cut into pieces, at room temperature

2 1/2 cups icing sugar
