Ingredients

For the cake:

  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 1 ¾ cups sugar
  • 2/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter at room temperature, cut into pieces
  • 2 large eggs at room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large cooked beetroots, finely grated
  • 1 ¼ cups hot water

For the frosting:

  • ½ cup  + 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¾ cup cocoa powder, sifted
  • ¾ cup whipping cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp salt
